Snakes and Snake Bite Awareness-“Sarpapadam 2025”

An awareness programme on “Snakes and Snake Bite” was organized at Devaswom Board Pampa College, Parumala on 27th September 2025 at 11:00 AM in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, NSS Unit No. 14, 3(K) Naval Unit, and NCC 10(K) Army Battalion. The programme aimed to educate students about snake identification, behaviour, and first aid measures during snakebite incidents.

The session featured Mr. Muhammed Shebin P. A., Senior Civil Police Officer, Police Control Room Kottayam, and Snake Rescuer, who also serves as a SARPA Educator under the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, as the resource person.

Mr. Shebin delivered an engaging and informative session, explaining the ecological significance of snakes, the major venomous and non-venomous species found in Kerala, and common misconceptions surrounding them. He also demonstrated safe methods of handling and rescuing snakes, while emphasizing dos and don’ts during snakebite emergencies. His talk provided scientific clarity and practical insights on managing snake-human conflict effectively and safely.

The programme was attended by students from various departments, including NSS and NCC volunteers, who actively participated in the interactive session. The event successfully enhanced awareness among the youth about wildlife conservation and the importance of coexisting with reptiles in their natural habitats.

The session concluded with an interactive question–answer segment and a vote of thanks proposed by a faculty representative. The event proved to be highly informative and impactful in promoting scientific understanding and precautionary awareness regarding snakes and snakebite management.
