The Department of Zoology, D. B. Pampa College, Parumala, in association with the Biosphere Club and Janaseva Trust, Pathanamthitta, organized an awareness talk titled “Life After Life: The Science and Spirit of Organ Donation” on August 13 (Wednesday) at 10.45 AM in the Smart Seminar Hall as part of the observance of World Organ Donation Day.
The session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Suresh S., Principal, who emphasized the importance of sensitizing young minds towards the noble act of organ donation. Dr. Vani S., Head of the Department of Zoology, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the objective of the event and the significance of organ donation in saving lives.
The awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Saramma Abraham, MBBS, MD, Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Thiruvalla. Dr. Saramma elaborated on both the scientific aspects and ethical dimensions of organ donation, explaining the medical procedures, donor criteria, and the emotional and social impact of such humanitarian acts.
Faculty members Dr. Abhijith R. S. and Dr. Bhavya also addressed the gathering, sharing their insights on promoting awareness and encouraging voluntary participation in organ donation initiatives.
The program witnessed active participation from the first-year students of all departments, who were the main beneficiaries of the session. The event concluded with an interactive discussion, where students raised thoughtful questions, reflecting their enthusiasm and awareness on the subject.
The program ended with a vote of thanks, marking a successful and enlightening observance of World Organ Donation Day.
